Art and Design Curriculum Statement

At Longfield Primary School, we value Art and Design as an important part of the children’s entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum.  Art and Design provides children with the opportunities to develop and extend skills as well as express their individual interests, thoughts and ideas and embodies some of the highest forms of human creativity.

 

Staff provide a high quality art and design education to engage, inspire and challenge pupils with the knowledge and skills to explore artists work, experiment and create their own works of art, craft and design.   Carefully chosen and coherently organised content ensures that knowledge builds from year to year.   Cross-curricular learning opportunities promote a love of learning; curiosity and language development, ensuring that skills and knowledge are learnt and remembered, enabling children to make links between learning.

 

As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design.  They should also know art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, and wealth of our nation.
